Monday Morning: Continuing Education

Have you ever heard of Eric Starvo Galt?  He changed the course of modern American history in 1968 with a single shot. Eric Galt was the alias used by James Earl Ray, Martin Luther King’s assassin.  He was a wretched, racist loner in a fascinating story.

That story is wonderfully told in a new book called Hellhound On His Trail by Hampton Sides. Hampton Sides wrote Ghost Soldiers, another excellent book.

Hellhound On His Trail gives historical perspective to those turbulent times but it reads like an action novel. I must admit that I knew little about the Martin Luther King and his movement. I knew next to nothing about his final days and I knew absolutely nothing about James Earl Ray. This book is chilling in so many ways and some of the parallels to society today will stop you in your tracks.

It is clear that racism in any form cannot be tolerated. Read this book. If you don’t want to buy it, I will buy you a copy and send it to you.

And this is my second offering of continuing education for you this morning.

This is a lecture by Yale Professor Robert Shiller on Investment Banking and Secondary Markets. This is from Youtube. Yes you can get entire lectures from Youtube on a variety of interesting topics.

Below is a lecture on Physics by UC/Berkeley Professor Richard Muller.

And here is a lecture by UCLA Professor Robert Goldberg on Genetics.
